Trine Jensen Reveals
The Trilogy that Empowers your Purpose
EDITORIAL NOTE
Trine C. Jensen is a speaker, coach and consultant that helps people discover what they feel called to do and how to integrate their purpose and make it happen. Her core path walks you through a trifocal relationship: your relationship to Self, Source and Service.
I interviewed Trine to find out why this relationship is the foundation of your ability to embody your purpose. Here’s what she revealed:
INTERVIEW
Maria: Why is it necessary to develop a clear relationship with Self, Source and Service? What happens if any one of these relationships is neglected or blocked?
Trine: In order to identify your Purpose there is some foundational information you need to be able to include.
If your Purpose is to be both inspired and sustainable it’s important to develop clear relationships with Self, Source and Service. These relationships inform you of the necessary ingredients for you to “cook up” a good, inspiring and sustainable Purpose.
It’s important to know not just who you are, but also what makes you tick, turns you on, what deeply upsets you, and also what your gifts, talents and core needs are.
Those answers hold clues to your heart-held values. If your Purpose is supposed to work for you long-term, it has to be inclusive, not just of what you want to offer this world but also your basic core needs. If your needs are not addressed and met there is no way you can sustain your Purpose, and you will eventually burn out or end up feeing disillusioned.
When you are clear about how to inspire and motivate yourself it’s a lot easier to offer up your gifts; but that is only half of the Source relationship. The other half is about being guided and feeling spiritually/energetically supported by the universe in what you’re doing. It is very hard to be up to world changing things if you don’t have a strongly developed relationship to a Source that can guide, inspire and sustain you in times of need.
In order to answer this question, you will first need to have the information from both the Self and the Source relationships.
When our Service is not inclusive of our needs and guidance it then becomes unsustainable and we become prone to feeling like victims or martyrs. We experience ourselves doing all this giving, but if our own core needs are not taken care of we cannot sustain our contribution and then what good are we?
Think of the oxygen mask in an emergency on an airplane. They tell you to put on your own mask first before assisting others, this is very similar — and you can easily see why. If any of the self, source or service relationships are unclear or simply riddled with unawareness, then it’s hard for you to create a Purpose that will make you feel happy, fulfilled and sustained as you go about doing it long-term.
Maria: Do I have to develop these relationships in this order: self, source and service? Why?
Trine: It doesn’t matter if you work with Self or Source first, but you do need the information from those two relationships to answer the Service question in a useful way.
I have always preferred to start with the relationship to self because it is inevitable. Many people are surprised when they start digging into their relationship to self, to find how much of what they thought was “them” actually are beliefs and desires that came from their parents, their culture or other environments.
It can be very eye-opening to examine your deeper likes, dislikes and needs in a way that is linked to how you like to work and relate with others.
Maria: Many spiritual paths talk about being selfless. What happens when I focus on being of service to others as my source of meaning, value and joy? Isn’t that spiritually enlightened? On the other hand, isn’t focusing on myself selfish?
Trine: I don’t believe we’re given anything that is unnecessary. We’re given needs, wants, desires, talents, gifts and also egos because we need those things to be successful.
There are a lot of misconceptions about service and sacrifice, and most of it come from our history and religious inheritance; but I believe that most contemporary people are not interested in sacrificing themselves in order to make a difference in the world. I don’t think the martyr outlook is healthy and it often leads to resentment.
Let’s assume for a moment that we’re all here to learn lessons and grow, but also to make unique contributions that only we can make.
When we start to uncover what our core needs are and also the gifts we long to contribute, and we combine that into our Purpose and how we live, we then begin to access the internal treasure that is key to feeling fulfilled and experiencing ourselves and our lives as successful.
I love guiding people through this process of finding their Purpose and in my advanced work, helping them integrate their Purpose into their daily life in practical ways.
