Thanksgiving 2025- A Poem for you

Reading Time: 3 minutes Thanksgiving 2025 Poem by Maria Mar     What could I ever freaking be grateful for this terrible year?   Surrounded by extreme cruelty and inhumanity, facing a fascist coup intent on stealing our freedom. My nerves on edge. My heart in sorrow. What. Could. I. Possibly. Be thankful. For?! SILENCE. In the next breath, I am grateful for speaking my truth out loud. It has returned me to myself—to my center. SILENCE. In the next breath I am grateful For my center, my self-loyalty, My capacity to face chaos, destruction and cruelty And remain in a space of clarity, creativity and kindness. I am not my enemy. I am not trapped in the circumstances That tyrants build for me. I am a creator and I transform myself Anew to meet and change those circumstances. SILENCE. In the next breath I am grateful For the millions of Americans who are courageously defending our democracy, who are fighting for our freedoms, who are standing for our diversity who are preserving our humanity with their bodies and their voices, with their rapid [Read more.]

Poem: The Heart of Beauty

Reading Time: 4 minutes The Heart of Beauty with Chorus including a modified version of the Navajo prayer “I walk in beauty” 1: This is a ceremonial poem. I created it as an oasis for us to enter serenity and replenish our energy during these turbulent times. The chorus has a ChiDance with simple movements that we can do to accompany the words as a form of movement meditation. This practice is keeping me sane and returning me to beauty every day! Let me know how it works for you. NOTE 2: Soon I will be creating a video of me reading the poem and doing the movements so that you can do it with me whenever you want. I’ll try to embed the video here or place a link. If you sing up in the form at the bottom, I will send you a notice when it’s ready. NOTE 3: I am Maria Mar and I am  available to perform this ceremonial poem for your audiences. It is a great event opening for bringing people into harmony and uplifting the energy . It [Read more.]

Art and poem: Celebration

Reading Time: 2 minutes Thanksgiving and the Holidays Celebration During these holy days, I want to join you in a celebration of life, love and the beauty in this world. So here’s a poem and art illustration from The Tao of Trees to remind you of the magic of love and the power of gratitude. This is poem #3 and it’s in The Path of Beauty, one of seven paths in the illustrated poetry book. Celebration Yesterday I did not see this tree. I was in a hurry and walk past it. After all, it was just another tree like the many lining my path. Now I stop in wonder. Rain drops hang from the naked limbs, like diamonds glittering in the fingers of creation. Like fairies, they twinkle inviting me to play and pray; filling me with gratitude. This trunk is no longer ordinary. Father Winter’s dazzling garland has transformed this humble tree into a celebration.   From The Tao of Trees, by Maria Mar(c) The Perfect Christmas Gift The Tao of Trees Poems to reconnect you to the natural world and your [Read more.]

Poem: The Search for Greatness

Reading Time: 2 minutes Saturday Poem   The Search for Greatness   She longed for it as she longed for the next breath. That Greatness. But when she attempted to walk towards it, she felt like a little girl inside mama’s big high heels. Yet, how alive she felt as she gave each wobbly step!   Yes, she was scared. She often thought “I must be crazy!” After all, must people around her thought that she had lost her mind reaching so high. What if they were right?   She carried a huge, heavy bag of doubts. It had was torn at the bottom, so that at every turn, on every big move a stream of doubts escaped and threatened to drown her.   They muffled her voice. They made her slip and fall. They pushed her into dark places.   At these times she had to stop and mend the seams of her bag, hunt down the scattered doubts and dump them back into the bag. The labor was grueling. It slowed her down. It made her wonder if she would ever get [Read more.]
