Saturday Poem
Follow the Pain
We run away from pain because it hurts.
Elemental. Obvious. Isn’t it?
Yet we often run towards danger
when it comes dress in illusion.
Illusion of power, love, satisfaction, relief.
We run towards danger and fall into addiction.
We run towards danger and fall into co-dependence.
We run towards danger and fall into deceit and deception.
We run towards danger and fall into drama and avoidance.
We run towards danger but away from pain.
It doesn’t sound so obvious now, does it?
We run away from the hurt, not the lie.
And thus we find ourselves
running away from the truth
when we run away from pain.
Yet, the doctor will tell you:
Pain is the alarm that your body raises
to let you know something is wrong.
Pain is your ally.
Pain is your adviser.
Pain is the trail that the Huntress follows
to find the true source of the danger.
Pain is the signal that the Healer follows
to find the wound and heal it.
We run away from pain.
But I invite you to follow its trail
until you find the truth,
the true source of the danger.
And when you find the wound,
don’t assume that the danger is fresh and eminent.
Look inside. Dive inside if you need.
Find out how old it is
and if there is any true danger left
or it’s just a ghost of the past
bleeding your life force backwards.
And when you find the danger,
look inside.
Dive inside if you need,
so that you can find the thread that ties you to the ghost.
And when you find that tender thread, cut it without hesitation
You will be free.
For your pain is often the trail to your power.
