Saturday Poem
In La ‘Kesh A la ‘Kin
I am you and you are me.
And yet, we struggle.
You struggle to understand
that when my words pierce your heart,
they are not meant as arrows
that bleed your life away;
but as raindrops that wash away
the Shroud of Shoulds that covers your radiance,
the sparkling Essence I see and love in you,
the Essence you often hide from your own eyes
because others told you that it was pretentious
to be that blindingly beautiful.
I am you and you are me.
And yet, we struggle.
I struggle to understand
that your path is more gentle
because your demons are more brutal.
That when I pierce your heart,
I activate the monster in you
that is always lashing out against yourself,
judging you and pushing you
to ceaselessly do more, be more, get more.
At that moment, the warrior in you
lashes out to me
to protect the very heart
I seek to celebrate.
I am you and you are me.
And yet, we struggle.
We struggle to understand
that love is all there is.
That when an action comes from love
we need not hide or fight on its wake.
When we come from pure love
~without agendas or one-up-manship,
without trying to place our own story over the others’~
then what we do feeds the heart.
What we do and say to each other is for each other
and it makes us stronger,
even if it’s not as easy
as we’d want love to be.
