Saturday Poem
If I were the river…
I would travel the world without leaving my bed.
I would dance in stillness.
I would drink the tears of the sky
and prepare with them a great gumbo to feed it…
that will take the sadness away!
I would change colors without changing dresses.
If I were the river…
I would be free.
I would be infinite, becoming the ocean, the sky, the universe…
I would be ever-changing and unwavering.
And now
As I look at the river,
I realize how much like the river I am.
I realize that I am free.
Infinite.
Ever-changing and unchangeable.
Thank you, River Mother,
for the mirror.
