Card: The Shadow Castle

Chapter: No 12- The Shadow Castle

Synopsis:

Angelina wakes up in a road surrounding a castle that seems to be the same face she left behind in the train; but is in fact an old castle. Dragonfly Diva is nowhere to be found. As Angelina explores this dark castle, she sees her DreamSelf –her future self? being taken prisoner by some Shadows. It is then that Angelina learns that this is her Shadow Castle and that her DreamSelf is flickering out of existence. She has at the most three days to get her out of that fortification. But it’s simply impossible. The security is impenetrable!

Excerpt: Angelina faces the Shadow Castle and sees her DreamSelf held prisoner by some Shadows

“I don’t like this,” Dragonfly Diva mutters, pacing up and down the dirt road. “These are ominous signs.”

“What? Why?” Angelina nervously inquires.

“They’ve taken her inside, but are hiding her from view,” Dragonfly Diva explains. “And they won’t let her dance.”

“Is that bad?” Angelina demands to know.

“Deprived of light, without seeing the sky or the green hills, unable to walk among the trees and without dance, she won’t survive long. You have about three days at the most to take her out of there.”

“What do you mean three days?” Angelina barks. “You mean that she can die?”

“She will fade quickly under these circumstances. We must find a way to her!” Dragonfly Diva declares.

“That’s easy!” Angelina laughs. “We can fly in! We can wait until they get distracted and…”

“I can fly in,” Dragonfly Diva said. “I could even teletransport myself, if…”

“Great, then we can…”

“You can’t,” Dragonfly Diva says. “I flew as close as you can get to that castle in the air. You can’t get closer than that from the air.”

“Why not?” Angelina asks.

“If you break into the castle, she will fade quicker. You must follow The Laws,” Dragonfly Diva explains.

But Angelina is not really listening. She is seeing an obvious loophole in the so-called Laws.

“I can’t break in, but you can,” Angelina says. “You can get her out!”

“No, I cannot,” Dragonfly Diva says.

“Why not? It would be easy for you,” Angelina complains. “You can teletransport, catch her and fly out. It would be so simple!”

“If I were to teletransport inside those walls,” Dragonfly Diva explains softly, “I would not land inside your Mask of Self.”

“What do you mean?” Angelina asks. “Where would you land?”

“Inside my own memories,” Dragonfly Diva simply says.

“It must be me,” Angelina declares. She’s known this all along, of course. But she didn’t want to face the grim truth.

“But how? It is simply impossible.”

“If you say so,” Dragonfly Divas whispers.
