A thing of Quality

Reading Time: < 1 minute Tuesday Tip

A thing of quality

A thing of quality is well planned.
It fits the environment like your glove fits your hand.
The details are well taken care of without breaking its flow.
It is created with ease and grace and it reflects this ease and grace as you see or interact with it.
Even when it is out-of-the-box, unusual, subverts the usual perception, rocks the boats or breaks the rules, it is presented with a kind of beauty that exalts the senses, opens the mind and pleases the imagination.
That is a thing of quality.
Are you creating things of quality?

Poem: The crack that hurts

Reading Time: < 1 minute Saturday Poem
Vulnerability

The toughness in the rock
is enticing to your hurt.
But it only makes it harder.
The softness of the water
pains you as it runs through the gash,
but it cleanses it.

The harshness in the knife’s edge
invites your fear to strike
though you may see a defense
it is nevertheless a crime.
The tenderness in your tears
may leave you open
and you may believe that
at that moment
you are the weakest.
But like the water that cleanses you,
your tears drain the venom
of your suffering and oppression.

That crack that hurts
is not you being broken.
It’s you being opened.
Vulnerability is the power
that throws you into your loss
so that you can feel your love.
So that you can BE your love.

Dream Evidence

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Monday Meditation
 Dream Evidence

Your logical mind demands evidence that your dreams are possible.
But the only evidence it will accept is the one in its archives.
And that familiar cage is the very one you are trying to escape!
Your creative mind needs no evidence.
It can dream, imagine, envision
and from that imagined, invisible conception
it can create a new life;
one that has no precedence.
When your logical mind doubts your dream for lack of evidence;
when your subconscious mind resists your dream for lack of evidence;
show them all that you have created from nothing.
That is plenty of evidence!

Oh! I love this meditation for manifestation. Enjoy it at http://mariamar.com/2014/06/dream-evidence

Prayer: May I release the doubt

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sunday Prayer

May I release the doubt
that denies my value.
May I rescind of the fear
that expects rejection.
May I disavow the unkindness
born from my defenses.
May I receive the treasures
buried in the depth of my being,
so that ~in full consciousness
of their infinite value~
I share them freely,
without expectation.
So that I spread a mantle of kindness
throughout the world;
so that we all find shelter
from our own battering judgments.

Poem: Old Tree Friend

Reading Time: 2 minutes Saturday Poem:

Poem: Old Tree Friend

You were so radiantly green and luscious.
For years you blessed me with your gifts.
You flourished every spring with new promises…
…And you kept each one
in your green leaves,
in the melodies you harbored,
in the shade and the joy your brought us.

In the winter you got naked
to show me the power of vulnerability,
the need for release and cleansing,
the healing force of silence and stillness.

But now, old tree friend,
you have been naked for three years.
You bear no more leaves.
There are no more songs in you.

And I ask myself:
Are you dying?
Where you poisoned
by the pesticides and pollutants
we humans carelessly have unleashed
into the soil, into our own lives?

Or was it that tropical storm in New York,
the one that gave you a beating,
that bully that came at the beck and call
of global warning?
Did it maim you?

Or are you slowly healing,
teaching me to be patient,
to allow my own healing without pushing,
to slow down,
to be fine with being more and doing less,
so that my self-healing body can replenish itself?
Are you still giving me your blessings,
old tree friend?
Even now?

Poem to Maya Angelou

Reading Time: 4 minutes Break all the Cages!
 To Maya Angelou,
my role model and inspiration
I was so young, so deeply hurt and angry!
I searched in vain for words
to name my pain.
And then I found you, Maya,
and I discovered why the cage bird sings.

Years went by and you seemed out of sight…

I was out of college, anxious to find my path,
to direct my first steps.
Should I continue doing theater?
Go on to study psychology?
How about my writing?
Poetry was the language of my soul,
but should I… could I make it my living?.

“No!” the publishers said. “Poetry does not sell!”

These words seemed to mute the world
and almost turned me deaf.

But then, I received an email that had gone “viral”
and then another, and another;
and they were all poems… your poems.

The world found words to speak to me again,
and I stopped listening to their lies
and heard your voice instead.
Because you always spoke the truth, Maya.

Years went by, and once again you seemed out of sight…

I had healed the wounds I’d carry
and now I was a healer-poet,
a storyteller, visual artist, shaman.
Each wound had become a radiant eye
in the wide Peacock fan […]
